About Us
Our beginnings.....
Made by Jo Dancewear was born in 2019 with a borrowed sewing machine, a whole lot of determination, and a mum’s love for dance. It all started when I wanted to make a few accessories for my daughter’s upcoming competition — and just like that, MBJ began to take shape.
Then lockdown hit. Instead of letting it get me down, I dove headfirst into learning — improving my sewing skills, taking online courses, and soaking up everything I could. From those shaky first stitches came photos… and from those photos came MBJ.
Today, MBJ is a full-time business that continues to grow — proudly creating dancewear for all styles, levels, and dancers across the country, from beginners to champs.

As a dance mum and a dance teacher, I know the cost of dance, which is why I always try and keep my prices reasonable and try to work within budgets on costumes to enable you to get what you want at a price that doesn't break the bank.
💫 Meet Jo – The Heart Behind MBJ 💫
Jo is an IDTA registered dance teacher with over 20 years of experience in the world of dance. A former champ-level competitor, she has spent more than 15 years teaching dancers of all ages and styles — and is also a proud dance mum who knows the journey from every angle.
As the owner, creative director, and designer of Made by Jo Dancewear, Jo brings passion, expertise, and a dancer’s eye to every stitch. Her mission? To create bold, beautiful, and affordable pieces that help dancers feel confident, fearless, and ready to slay the floor.
Meet Laura – The Heart & Inspiration of MBJ
Laura is Jo’s junior assistant, daughter, and the original inspiration behind the MBJ brand. It all started with a few handmade accessories for one of Laura’s early competitions — and the rest is history!
Currently studying Art & Design, Laura brings her own creativity and flair to MBJ, helping with design ideas and behind-the-scenes magic. One day, she hopes to follow in her mum’s footsteps and continue the MBJ legacy with style and passion.
Meet Anne-Marie – Our Newest Team Member
Anne-Marie is the newest seamstress to join the MBJ team! With years of experience in dressmaking, she brings precision, patience, and a passion for sewing to every project.
Now diving into the exciting world of costume creation, Anne-Marie is learning the ropes of dancewear design and already becoming an essential part of the MBJ journey. We’re so excited to have her on board!
